Clients who visit Visions of Canada are immediately impressed with our large eyeglass frame selection.
For our clients who cannot come and work with us face to face at our store, we will guide you
towards purchasing the perfect lens right in your own community. |
The range of frames available to you depends on 5 factors: |
1. Your prescription
2. Your vision requirements
3. Facial characteristics
4. Your aesthetic preferences
5. Your budget. |
1. YOUR PRESCRIPTION |
The function of eyeglasses and contact lenses
is to manipulate light as it moves into your eye. |
 |
The shape of the lens to correct nearsightedness
is concave, and convex if you are farsighted. |
|
|
Prescriptions for farsightedness are indicated by a plus (+)
and those for nearsightedness have a minus (-). |
|
Strong prescriptions have higher numbers and are reflected
by the thickness of the lenses either on the edges (concave)
or in the center of the lenses (convex). |
|
Frame shapes will accentuate the thickness of the lenses,
especially those with strong prescriptions, minus (-) or plus (+) 8 or higher.
And while high index, and aspherical are now available to give the
same vision correction with much thinner lenses, if you have a
strong prescription, the size of the frame must be taken into consideration. |
2. YOUR VISION REQUIREMENTS: Single Vision or Progressive Lenses |
|
Single vision lenses correct for myopia (nearsightedness) or hyperopia
(farsightedness) and astigmatism. If in addition, to being farsighted,
nearsighted, or have an astigmatism, you need reading glasses for presbyopia,
you will need either bi-focal or progressive lenses. |
|
If you need progressive lenses, frame size and shape will become an issue.
Fortunately, there are lens designs that will accommodate a wide range
of frames dimensions. You optician will explain the alternatives available to you. |
3. FACIAL CHARACTERISTICS |
|
Every person has a unique face and the art of choosing the right eyeglass
frame is a combination of aesthetics, style, and facial dimension. |
|
All frames have standardized size measurements to help manufacturers
and optical personnel fit them for consumers: The first number represents
the size (width) of the lenses. The second number is the bridge size,
which ensures that the frame fits your nose. The third number is the
temple length (temples are the parts that hook over the ears). |
|
Your Visions of Canada optician will guide you through
the frame selection process. |
4. YOUR AESTHETIC PREFERENCES |
|
Frames, in addition to holding your lenses, are fashion statements and
the right frame can enhance your attractiveness. There are eyeglass
frames for men, for women and some that can be worn by both men and women.
The choices are many, and your Vision of Canada optician will work with
you to make sure that you look great in your new frames. |
5. YOUR BUDGET |
|
Frames are available in a wide range of price and quality. Designer frames
average in the 300 dollar range and up. They offer looks, style and quality.
As in most things, you get what you pay for. |
|
Consider getting a good quality titanium rimless frame such as the
Silhouette.
While you may pay a bit more, you can save money by paying
only for replacement lenses when your prescription changes. |
|
While you may buy your frame locally, you may also take advantage of
Visions of Canada’s great selection of frames. If you find a frame in a store
you want, either take a picture of it or get the identifying information and
ask for the Visions of Canada price.
We may be able to supply you with
the same frame at a better price. |
|
